Glenn Rodent 6:17 1. Rubbish. We rarely play a midfield diamond but if we do the best player in that role -(Downing) gets pushed wide. SA plays 4-5-1 in the main. Valencia also gets pushed wide yet when I saw him play for his country he played centrally too. Would SA ever go 4-4-2? He did earlier in season but refuses to go back to what was very successful diamond 4 and 2 forwards. 3. Nonsense. SA's signings are shots in the dark on agent recommendations. His free signings have been decent which is where he is comfortable. When it comes to judging quality players he falls flat on his face. His need for a powerful CF led him to sign AC which has been an unfortunate injury hit signing and Nolan he knew well. But Jarvis, Maiga and Diarra cost over £17m and were wasted money. Add in Carroll and that is £34m largely wasted but not entirely his fault. But would we have gone for £17m Carroll without SA? Definitely no. Was he worth £17m? Definitely no even without the injuries. 4. Nene, Zarate, Diarra, Poyet, Amalfitano and earlier seasons Baldock, Boriello, Armero, Paulista, Chamakh, Carew and if I tried I'm sure I could find a lot more.... 5. How would we know how good any youngsters are? Poyet looked good and was in the Championship team of year I believe yet apart from early days he has not been near the bench while Nolan is first choice and shit. 7. So he didn't sign Nene and yet Carlton lumbers on... Honestly Rodent you are making excuses for him...
As I said I make my judgement on what I see and what I see is a manager that should be moved on...

Winning the league in a different country would surely qualify as a challenge - especially if Man City finish 4th.

But his stated reason for leaving is that he wants a challenge. A club that's 'already there' wouldn't give him that.

Klopp can probably walk into a job with a club that's already there rather than one with great potential.

1. Bad team selections (Nolan) and tactical line-ups. Our midfield is in the main a diamond of Noble, Song, Kouyate & Downing. Nolan only appears when rotation is required or due to injury (Kouyate having to revert to centre back) or lack of form (Song). This is why I say he needs to get rid of Nolan and invest in a bigger and better squad. 2. Even worse substitutions - in some games I'd make you correct. 3. Bad player purchases to the extent that the club signed a Director of Recruitment to take the problem away from SA. - Many clubs have a Director of football or a Panel to agree on player transfers. Allardyce has made some poor buys but what manager doesn't. I would suggest that near enough for every bad buy he has made a good buy in his transfer history at West Ham.
4. Ignoring too many signed players with decent records that hardly ever get a chance - Name them? 5. Ignoring young players - What young players do we have who are ready to play 90 minutes week in week out int he Premier League. Lee, Poyet, Henry, Potts, Oxford? - Poyet is the only one who would be close but he isn't deemed good enough yet. Maybe you could suggest he deserves to be thrown in but the rest are either not good enough or not ready at this stage. 6. Dreadful football style - Yes in some cases but again I put a lot of this down to a lack of quality players in the squad. I would hope that this would improve if we buy more quality and when everyone is fit & on form we look good (see Man Utd at home). 7. Endless excuses such as fatigue or lack of Prem experience being the cause of our bad run when most point the finger directly at his tactics and line-ups. - Again, we don't have the squad and failure to boost it in January has to be blamed on the Manager and Sullivan.
8. Taking the players away for an expenses paid holiday when on a bad run - rewarding failure. To be fair this hasn't worked. I agree.
In summary, he has made mistakes in transfers, tactics and the Dubai trip, but not enough to have him hounded out of the club. He is arrogant at times and I see that. But I also think he has done a decent job overall. Maybe it is time for a change but I also think if we really have a go in the summer and clear out the dead wood we can kick on. All this uncertainty is an extra burden on the team and this isn't helping our form either.

Glenn Rodent 4:18 The positions that we finish are not the way to judge SA. I and most critical others go by - 1. Bad team selections (Nolan) and tactical line-ups. 2. Even worse substitutions. 3. Apart from those little problems I would agree he should be given another year. But the signs that are there for anyone with their eyes open, are that SA on a 5th season in charge would really do some damage to WH.
